Shrill wind leaves me trembling below
my knees
driving down empty second avenue
illuminated only by fast food joints.
I missed the second the ball dropped, missed
the part where I was supposed to kiss a stranger
and lose my consciousness to dimly lit living rooms
and uncomfortable couches;
and all for the sake of
experience.

Another year gone
wide awake feet over the
edge of some boy's toilet I exhale
smoke, chose judgment over intoxication.
No, this isn't fun anymore,
I'm bleeding between the sheets,
sipping at the corner
of a impeccable oval glass
feeling muted.
Maybe, this year you will love me, but
I suppose that isn't resolve anyway
